Bashe's pastries are deeply rooted in a family tradition that excels in the culinary arts. In 1949, after World War II, Emanuel and Elvira Bleier left their home in Bucharest, Rumania to immigrate to Mexico City. In Mexico, Emanuel began as a tailor while Elvira began making small confections in their small apartment as a side business. Shortly after, Emanuel joined Elvira in efforts to create a full time bakery, D'Elvis. Together they created and perfected the Garabato cookie, the palatable double layered chocolate drizzled cookie, along with other pastries. With the help of their five children, the Bleier family started a new European dessert tradition in Mexico that continues today. Now, after living in the United States for 26 years, Elvira and Emanuel's youngest, Bashe, has brought her parent's legacy to Houston. Bashe's Artisanal Pastries brings the nostalgic flavor of the same hand-crafted Garabato cookie and other delectable pastries that Emanuel and Elvira created.
