Meals For Good (How We’ve Helped Feed Local Communities)

Now more than ever it’s vital to support small businesses, rally together as a community, and ensure that people who need a meal are being fed.

Since March, Roaming Hunger has teamed up with some pretty amazing charities and partners to do something that’s really important to us – bring people together through food and help our front line workers and our most vulnerable community members.

Below we’ve highlighted how we’ve been able to combine our network of 18,000+ food trucks with charitable partners, hospitals, and non-profits. It’s a win-win for the entire community.

Do you want to feed frontline workers or communities in need? Here’s what you can do:

Montefiore Hospital – NYC

Meals Served: 300

Funding Partner: WCPG

Food Partner: Big D’s Grub Truck

When the cause agency WCPG let us know they wanted to feed their friends at New York City’s Montefiore Medical Center, we knew the perfect food truck to reach out to.

Big D’s served 300 meals to medical staff working long hours providing care to high-risk patients. Doctors, nurses, and other professionals work hard to care for us during this difficult time. Thank you WCPG and Big D’s for returning the favor by giving essential workers some TLC via hot, fresh food.

LA + USC Medical Center – Los Angeles

Meals Served: 8,000

Paid for entirely by: CMA/SEIU/LACMA

Food Partners: Pinch of Flavor, Richeeze, and Falafel Factory

LA+USC Hospital reached out to us in need of meals to feed their hardworking staff. They then received fare from a trio of food trucks, allowing us to feed over 8,000 healthcare workers.

Pinch of Flavor, Richeeze, and Falafel Factory teamed up to offer doctors, nurses, and other staff a diverse array of meal options. Special thanks to those trucks for providing meals to healthcare workers who deserve it.

West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department, Cedars Medical Center, Beverly Hills PD, Hollywood Presbyterian – Los Angeles

Meals Served: 1,726

Food Partners: Cafe Vietnam, Richeeze, Chomp Chomp, Pinch of Flavor, Falafel Factory, G’s Taco Spot On Wheels

With the generous help of Lipton Legal, Roaming Hunger has been able to provide over 1,700 hundred meals to West Hollywood’s Sheriff Department, the Beverly Hills Police Department, Cedars Medical Center, and Hollywood Presbyterian Church. Cafe Vietnam, Richeeze, Chomp Chomp, Pinch of Flavor, Falafel Factory, and G’s Taco Spot On Wheels treated emergency service workers to both international fare and comfort food classics. This is an ongoing campaign and Lipton Legal x Roaming Hunger are continuing to feed those who keep our communities safe!

The Dream Center – Los Angeles

Meals Served: 510

Funding Partner: Donations through GoFundMe LA campaign

Food Partners: Richeeze, Falafel Factory, G’s Taco Spot On Wheels, Fettes Schwein

When we decided to focus on helping to feed the homeless, elderly, first responders, and healthcare workers, the Dream Center in Los Angeles became the first recipient of what would be over 500 meals donated.

Roaming Hunger created a GoFundMe campaign (found here) and through donations, we were able to raise enough money to send out some of our food truck partners to provide hot meals. More about this campaign can be found in this awesome article by LA Weekly.

Here are some of the amazing food trucks that participated in this campaign for the Dream Center. Thank you for providing your time and signature, delicious menu items to those in need!

Richeeze Melts – 210 tasty grilled cheese meals served on March 18th

Fettes Schwein – 100 burgers served on April 1st

Falafel Factory – 100 falafels served on April 2nd

G’s Taco Spot On Wheels – 100 homemade breakfast burritos served on April 3rd

Kaiser Permanente – West Los Angeles

Meals Served: 100

Funding Partner: LA GoFundMe campaign

Food Partner: Achara

Roaming Hunger created a second GoFundMe campaign for Kaiser West LA. Thanks to the generosity of donors, we sent 100 hot meals to essential workers on scene.

The Filipino-American food truck Achara provided an amazing public service. They delivered quick, healthy, and tasty meals to treat staff hard at work keeping our community healthy.

International District Medical and Dental Clinic (ICHS) – Seattle

Meals Served: 100

Funding Partner: Seattle GoFundMe campaign

Food Partner: Eat At Auntie’s

Having had success with our LA GoFundMe campaign for Kaiser West LA and the DreamCenter, we decided to launch one in Seattle. Thanks to the generosity of donors, we sent 100 hot meals to healthcare workers at ICHS.

Eat At Auntie’s was our food truck partner for this campaign and they dished out tasty rice bowls and wraps. We appreciate all the donations that made this Seattle campaign possible and a big thanks to the staff from Eat At Auntie’s!

In light of recent events, it’s easy to feel powerless. However, when individual actions combine, amazing things happen. We’re all in this together and Roaming Hunger’s recent charities and partnerships were a group effort.

With that in mind, we would like to offer one last thank you. None of this would have been possible without GoFundMe’s Marketing and PR team, our food trucks, and donors like you. As we continue to navigate these trying times, let’s stick together, support local businesses, and keep one another healthy.
