Countdown to NaanStop’s Launch!

This is part of an ongoing series about the start up of a food truck called NaanStop. We will be launching in the first quarter of 2011. You can follow us on Twitter, on Facebook, or email me at [email protected] with any feedback. Check back here for weekly updates!

6 days left until our “soft launch.”

We are on our last major step now: getting the exterior of our truck designed and wrapping the truck in that design. The truck wrap is our brand image. It is the picture by which people will recognize us. So, for this process especially, every detail is important. Needless to say, we put a lot of thought into choosing a graphic designer. When hiring a graphic designer, you’re paying not only for a person’s computer design expertise, but also for his creativity. As with our logo design process, we were wary of hiring a designer who sucked, wasting money and more importantly time.

On the recommendation of our friends Mike and Tina at the Hungry Nomad Truck (@nomadtruck – delicious Armenian food by the way) we contacted Jackie Hemphill ([email protected]). Although we didn’t ask her to, she drew up a quick sketch of a design based on a brief conversation. We loved the direction she was going with our idea and seeing it on paper made us much more confident in hiring her. She has been great about understanding our budget and timeline and using some of our vague ideas as a launching point for some really cool designs.

With over 150 gourmet food trucks on the streets now and 5000+ taco trucks, we wanted a design that would really turn some heads, not one that was just a logo on a solid background. So, we have been especially picky. Our goal was to create something that really showcases the great culture of India. We incorporated a handful of iconic scenes from India like farming in rice paddys, shopping in the open-air vegetable markets, and of course authentic street food. For all our annoying pickiness about the details, I’m really proud of the design we have now. Let us know what you think!

The wrap process starts tomorrow, so check back here for updates on how that process works start to finish.
