The San Diego Food Truck Movement Begins

This post brought to you by San Diego Food Trucks Facebook page.

When I saw a line to get into the 57 Degrees Wine Bar Food Truck extravaganza, I proclaimed, “Food trucks have ARRIVED in San Diego!”

Hundreds of hungry mobile food fans spent their Friday night on March 18 indulging in 12 trucks: India on Wheels, Sweet Treats, Patty Melt, Chop Soo.ey, Corner Cupcakes, SD Street Eats, Super Q Food truck, MIHO Gastrotruck, Tabe BBQ, Joesonthenose, Devilicious, and Two for the Road.

There was a little confusion and pushback among attendees regarding the $2 entry fee; but I heard it was to help defray the costs of tables, chairs, portable toilets, and clean up.  Each attendee received a voucher for $2 off a wine purchase.

The spacious wine bar was crowded with a lively atmosphere and had plenty of tables and seating, a live band, and even women’s fashions for purchase.  $5 or $10 glasses of wine were available as well as beer.

57 Degrees has stated that they will be holding this event the third Friday of every month going forward.  So if you missed March’s event, there’s another one right around the corner and it is bound to be even bigger and better.
