Bottoms Up in Boston

With fall rolling into town, Boston’s food trucks like to break out some special treats to wet the whistles of locals and out-of-town leaf-peepers alike. As the weather gets cooler, here are a couple of folks who are bringing a little extra to the table this season.

Bon Me

Doling out an easy-going, fresh take on Vietnamese cuisine, Bon Me is as well-known in Boston for its bright and colorful trucks as it is for its approachable menu of cooling noodle salads with unique dressings like Miso Lime and Toasted Sesame, and toasty sandwiches with top-shelf proteins, from smoky soy and paprika tofu, to their take on Chinese roasted Char Siu Pork. To wash down these perennial favorites, Bon Me offers a year-round menu of homemade delights, such as the refreshing Thai Basil Limeade, Spicy Ginger Lemonade, sweet Thai Iced Tea, creamy Vietnamese Iced Coffee, and thirst-quenching Iced Green Tea.

If you’re looking for something a little warmer as the temperatures continue to drop in New England, Bon Me has you covered there, too. Look for steamy selections from Boston-based Mem Tea Imports to hit menus, as well as a warming mulled cider available on the Harvard truck soon.

Insider tip: The Bubble Tea that Bon Me debuted at their Kendall Square brick-and-mortar may soon be making its way onboard their Harvard truck as well, so keep your eyes peeled for this newcomer.

Green Bean Mobile Café

The brainchild of a self-confessed coffee addict, Green Bean Mobile Café is a one-stop shop to get yourself a little boost in the caffeine department, while doing a little something good for the environment while you’re at it – every cup of organic, fair trade coffee you gulp down sends a little bit of money towards Boston’s green initiatives.

And it’s a tasty brew, too – a dark, strong-but-smooth roast from Dean’s Beans in nearby Orange, MA. (Fun fact: It’s the
same bean that South Deerfield’s Berkshire Brewing Company uses in their Coffeehouse Porter.) Pair your scrumptious egg soufflé breakfast sandwich or seasonal panini and soup combo with your choice of hot or iced, regular or decaf, with special flavors like French vanilla and chocolate peppermint.

To up the ante even more, Green Bean is soon to debut their decadent Mexican Hot Chocolate for the cold weather – homemade hot chocolate with cayenne, nutmeg, and Dulce de Leche. If that doesn’t start your morning out on the right foot, we don’t know what will.

Mei Mei Street Kitchen

Sibling-run Mei Mei Street Kitchen spins around Boston slinging imaginative Chinese-American cuisine made from local and sustainable ingredients. Creatively named favorites include the tried-and-true Double Awesome (a scallion pancake sandwich with pesto, Vermont cheddar and two slow-poached-then-fried eggs) and the Magical Kale Salad (local kale with sea-brined feta, garlic panko, rice wine vinaigrette and another slow-poached-then-fried egg).

And the creativity doesn’t stop with the dishes – Mei Mei welcomes you to bring a little autumn flavor to your meal with some seasonal drinks, such as the Haymaker’s Punch, a sweet and puckery sipper with apple cider vinegar, honey, and fruit bitters, and the Woodsman’s Refresher, a blend of whole milk and Bobo’s Mountain Sugar maple syrup.
