Philadelphia's Mobile Gourmet Cupcake Truck! Bringing the most delicious gourmet cupcakes the Delaware Valley has to offer...to you!
I am the Cupcake Guy…the tall, middle aged bald guy who drives all over Philly with a truck full of delicious cupcakes & I don’t mind if you “Call Me Cupcake”. I’m not just the Cupcake Guy. To my family, I’m Dave Dilks, laid back fun loving 18-year-old-at-heart…with an awesome wife and two smart and beautiful little girls. To my friends and co-workers, I’m “Double D”…the man with a serious work ethic & craving for knowledge that is balanced out with my love for having fun and music (I’m a true audiophile….seriously!!! I’m up for any music trivia, try me!!!). I’ve been a manager, business owner in the food industry & a manager in retail, as well as a lifelong student. As an adult, I returned to college and received a BS in Criminal Justice from West Chester University and a MS from Penn while working full time. So maybe you’ll bump into me at a Herbie Hancock or Slayer concert or relaxing on the beach with my family or simply enjoying a cigar, while listening to the fine sounds of Carlos Jobim. More than likely, however, you will spot me around Philly in my cupcake covered truck. Wherever it is, stop over and say hi! And yes, you can call me cupcake!
Earlier this year, after we first decided to become purveyors of the most delicious mobile gourmet cupcakes in Philadelphia, we found a used/whitewashed postal truck (a blank canvas if you will). It was perfect…well, almost. See, our truck was in Moline, IL & we were in Philly. After the seller could not locate a transport company to ship the vehicle to us, we picked it up from them. Like a true natures child, I bought a one way ticket to Illinois and drove it home (950+ miles…..no radio….just the flatlands of the Midwest). I had a very reflective journey home, thoughts of cupcakes and frosting bouncing around my head.
By the time I got back to Philly, I was ready to convert this plain old mail truck into the fun cupcake mobile you know and love. I got to work installing the necessary equipment and hired a shop that specializes in trucks to install the window and power inverter. We found an awesome wrap company (Brands Imaging) to wrap the truck and then got to work. Some of you may ask, “Does your truck have a name?”......no it doesn’t, however, our mascot does. In fact, like me, they call our mascot…..Cupcake Guy. He was designed by a dear friend of my wife, Gail Hilinski…..she created him from his adorable cupcake face to his body and attitude all the way down to the curl atop his sprinkle covered head!
