Anchorage has a small but feisty food truck scene, with dedicated owners who keep serving hot meals year-long through the dead of winter. The Wheel Good Food Truck even journeyed 28 miles out of the city in 15-below temps to make sure the “the Wilds of Alaska” film crew got fed! Other die-hard chefs park trucks like Xtratufs and Urban Bamboo, and linger outside downtown bars 6 nights a week in the howling wind from 11 PM to 4 AM. Urban Bamboo is famous with bar-goers for its bacon-wrapped meatloaf, reindeer sausage, and spot shrimp skewers. Rain, snow, sleet, or shine, there’s weekly food truck gatherings in Chikhoot Charlie’s parking lot for the Spenard Food Truck Carnival on Thursdays and Food Truck Fridays.
