• “My mother in law is English; from the small coastal town of Great Yarmouth. She makes legitimate shepherd's pie and coming from a true Englishwoman, it's quite bland. Most "English" dishes she's prepared I've eaten and been left thinking "pass the salt". That being said, I introduced my MIL to the world of food trucks and my love of the amazing delicacies that come out of these tiny, mobile kitchens. We stumbled upon The Great Australian at a food truck rally in Arlington one year and my MIL was instantly drawn to it, insisting on getting their version of shepherd's pie. I turned up my nose and thought she was nuts and wandered over to another truck that caught my eye. She get's her pie and comes over to me eyes wide. I'm thinking she's going to spew mashed potatoes everywhere but instead she yells with a mouth full of piping hot pie "YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS". I grab a fork and reluctantly take a bite, I mean, she's from the land of bland... this can't be that good. HOLY CRAP. Just get it and don't ask questions. Just eat it and then thank me later.
