Justin Newstrum’s donut journey may not have begun at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, but that’s where it found its direction. Inspired by the impossibly delicious hot, fried treats Du Monde is famous for, 9th & Hennepin (named for the Tom Waits song about NOLA) is Newstrum’s love letter to donuts. There’s nothing obnoxious, topped with Froot Loops, or clearly designed only for Instagram at his Seattle, WA donut pop up; these are good, honest (and most importantly), delicious donuts.
We’re dealing with classic glazed donuts and crullers here, and while you can always go for a plain original, you’ll want to take a look at whatever he’s got special that day. Newstrum has fried up specialties ranging from chocolate cherry cake donuts and peach curd brioches to apricot fritters and chocolate buttermilk bars with spicy sugar. These things are pure magic, so what are you even waiting for? Hit up 9th & Hennepin in Seattle, or book them to cater your next event.
