What is your favorite dish on the menu?

Our favorite has to be our specialty hand roll, The Zuma! Inspired by the sunny shores of Zuma Beach in Malibu, this roll features fresh Ora King salmon, red shiso, our signature tangerine soy sauce, and dill. It's the perfect balance of rich umami and bright, refreshing citrus flavors. The Zuma is consistently a fan favorite, and honestly, we could eat it for every meal of every day. We swear!

What is the story behind your business' name?

The name Dear Neighbor comes from the very heart of our mission: celebrating and supporting the neighborhoods that make Los Angeles so special! We didn't just want to start a food truck; we wanted to become a neighborhood staple, a familiar face, and a little beacon of community wherever we go. L.A. is a city made up of so many unique, vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own character and incredible people, and we wanted our name to reflect our love for all of them. To us, being a good neighbor means showing up for your community, supporting the people around you, and making everyone feel welcome. Whether we're serving hand rolls on a street corner or catering a local event, we want every customer to feel like they're stopping by to see an old friend. That's what Dear Neighbor is all about: good food, good people, and a whole lot of love for Los Angeles!

Why did you decide to start your business?

We love good food, and we love Los Angeles! Dear Neighbor was born out of our desire to bring those two loves together. L.A. is a city full of incredible people, vibrant neighborhoods, and hardworking communities, and we wanted to create something that celebrates all of them. From struggling actors and artists to teachers, firefighters, and the grandmas holding their families together, we love the people who make this city what it is. We started Dear Neighbor to serve delicious, high-quality food while giving back to the communities that make Los Angeles so special. That's why we offer discounts to our neighbors, entertainment industry workers, educators, and first responders, along with discounted catering for film sets and charity events. We believe great food should bring people together, and that a small business can be about more than just selling a product. At the end of the day, we wanted to create a business that feels like a good neighbor: welcoming, generous, and full of love for L.A.!

What's your favorite event that you've catered for?

Our favorite events are always the ones where we get to give back to the communities we love! Whether we're catering for a nonprofit, a charity event, or a gathering of local artists, filmmakers, and writers, there's nothing more rewarding than feeding people who are doing incredible things for Los Angeles. As creatives ourselves, we know how much hard work goes into bringing a project to life, and we love being able to support the people who make L.A. such a vibrant, creative city. Good food brings people together, and getting to be even a small part of something meaningful is exactly why we started Dear Neighbor in the first place!

Founded by a group of young Los Angeles creatives, Dear Neighbor Handrolls is reimagining the food truck experience with handcrafted Japanese-inspired handrolls designed to travel beautifully. In partnership with East Hollywood's Cafe Nido and Studio City's Licorice Pizza, the team combines culinary creativity with a strong commitment to the local community. Their unique wooden spoon method keeps the rice separate from the nori until it's time to eat, helping every handroll maintain its texture and freshness without the pressure to eat immediately.

The menu showcases thoughtfully crafted handrolls and specialty creations inspired by traditional Japanese flavors. Favorites include The Ventura with albacore, black garlic, and black sesame, alongside The Zuma featuring Ora King salmon, tangerine sauce, and red shiso.
