About Smaaken Waffle Sandwiches

Though a name like Smaaken Waffle Sandwiches might sound like wordplay for lip-smackin', there's actually more to it than that. Sure the eponymous waffles are lip-smackin' good, but "smaaken" is more-or-less the Dutch word for "tasty", and those are exactly what the folks behind Portland’s favorite truck are griddling up — smaaken waffles. Keeping to traditional preparation methods, Smaaken is giving their batter a full 24 hours to develop the flavor profile we’ve all come to know and love, using an heirloom wheat varietal found only in the Willamette Valley. Whether they’re stuffed with eggs, goat cheese, lemon-vanilla Bavarian cream, or peanut butter, Smaaken is building all kinds of creative sandwiches, and they really shouldn’t be missed.
