Yes, Sophia is registered for catering and/or vending events on Roaming Hunger. In terms of availability, we don't manage their calendar. The best way to find out if they're available is to fill out your event information and see if they respond.

Sophia has a home base in New York and surrounding areas. Keep in mind that for catering, they may add a travel fee if it's outside of their normal travel radius.

What is your favorite dish on the menu?

The Lamb Smashburger. It is an intentional Greek adaptation of an American classic, the smashburger. The burger is a blend of ground lamb (67%) and ground beef (33%) and seasoned with earthy spices such as cumin and coriander. The blend is required so the final product does not taste too rich. We top the burger with havarti cheese with pairs nicely with the lamb, caramelized onion and pickled fig to bring sweetness and acidity that cuts the unctuousness of the burger. And we serve it on a perfectly toasted brioche roll.

What is the story behind your business' name?

Sophia is my oldest sister's name and it was my Yiayia's name (grandmother). It means wisdom in Greek and it is a beautiful sounding name. In Greek mythology, the owl is the representative animal of wisdom, so we've incorporated that into our logo as well. It's memorable, carries substantial meaning to me, and is also not too many syllables.

Where did you learn to cook?

I learned to cook in some of NYC's top restaurants, namely, Per Se and One White Street. All of my professional training has been on the job. However, I did run a meal prep side business out of my NYC studio while working at JPMorgan, travelled to 13+ countries in 6 months where I experienced food around the world and practiced my craft by staging, cooking one-on-one with local chefs, and volunteering for the World Central Kitchen. Prior to all that, I've always had an interest in cooking and eating good food and would spend my leisure time reading about food and watching culinary shows.

Why did you decide to start your business?

I decided to start a business because I wanted my daily efforts to be channeled into something where I'd experience the most satisfaction and reward, building something for myself. Doing that in a culinary capacity was a natural evolution given it was how I'd spend a large portion of my time prior to actually working in kitchens.

Who encouraged you the most to start your own business?

I did. I knew I wanted to start my own food service business for 6+ years. However, I decided to postpone as long as possible to give myself an opportunity to learn on-the-job.

What's your favorite event that you've catered for?

Its a tie between a wedding catering an event we partnered at as a vendor. For the event, we served 1,000 people in two days. The team was pumping food and we were able to sell food fast. The wedding was intimate 50-person event In June '26 and it was a truly special service. The offering included passed canapes, a grazing spread and individually plated main courses, featuring a seared branzino, a grilled chicken horiatiki salad featuring the best heirlooms at the farmer's market and of course, our lamb smashburger.
