Where did you learn to cook?

Ben started in a professional kitchen as a dishwasher at the age of 14. He worked his way up the kitchen and attended a tech program for culinary throughout high school. He became a sous chef at 20 years old and was quickly promoted to head chef at 22. He was heavily influenced by Alton Brown and would watch Good Eats constantly as a kid. He has worked extensively in catering and fine dining. When he started the Big Bad, he wanted to bring the techniques that create mind-blowing flavor into the world of comfort food. His passion for flavor elevates every classic dish he takes on.

Why did you decide to start your business?

Ben and Molly have been talking about starting a food truck since they met while working for a restaurant at a prestigious golf club when they were 20 years old. When they were 21 years old, they were in a traumatic accident that left Molly in a coma and took Ben's right leg. The doctors told Molly's family that she would likely never speak again if she woke up and they told Ben he would never work in a kitchen again. They both fought through long recoveries and defied the doctors' expectations. With a lot of effort, Ben got back in the kitchen quickly and began working as the head chef for a well-known restaurant in Portsmouth, NH. At the height of covid, the owner of the restaurant passed away and the restaurant closed. This is when Ben and Molly decided it was time to go out on their own and start The Big Bad.

Molly's parents have been incredible supporters of the business through its growth and success. The Big Bad is truly a family owned and operated business.

What's your favorite event that you've catered for?

We have done some pretty cool events. We absolutely love working the Great New England Food Truck Festivals. We have also done some overnight events for our food supplier. We love the overnight events- they are always exciting.
