What is the story behind your business' name?
The Cuban Thing: Founded by Cuban born, Miami raised, Cinematographer/Chef Chuchi Rivero and Canadian born Patricia Salazar, both involved in the culinary world for over 15 years. Chuchi an award-winning cinematographer with a 40-year career reroutes and wakes up another charm for creating dishes. Chef Chuchi as he is known now has taken his world cultured travels and his Miami Cuban background and has created Toronto’s Cuban food truck. “The Cuban Thing”, serving up some island favorites while creating new palatable dishes. He strives to take Cuban food and reimagine new flavors while maintaining authenticity. Life slogan: “Creativity is the capacity to dream with your heart and eyes open”. After directing the world famous show “Masterchef Latino” and returning from a Sony film shoot in Ecuador early 2020, Chuchi and Patricia came up with a business plan, they turned their focus to the creation of a “mobile food service”. fast forward to October 2020 and “The Cuban Thing”, officially launched. A blessing in disguise launching in the middle of the pandemic. The Toronto community has been very receptive to their tantalizing Cuban food and have enjoyed supporting them as they have supported the community. In addition to the amazing Frita Burger, they serve “El Cubano” (Cuban Sandwich), the “BG Chicken” (Crunchy Chicken Breast, Berry Guava Caramelized Sauce, mango salad). A favorite is the almost world famous “Cilantro Mojo Sauce”, pretty much goes on anything you want. They have the rice and beans with the option of either chicken, beef, pork or vegetarian style. How can anyone forget the homemade “Cuban Flan” (Vanilla Custard), Pana Puff (strawberry filled pastry), “TOSTONES” (green plantain with Cilantro Mojo Sauce), and many more. Combo options are also available, and they adapt a “Ready in 10-Minutes or Less” promise. Faith plays a big role in both Patty and Chuchi, above all else that plays in everything they do, we’ve got to listen to the boss and see where we get pointed to.
