Marshall Tucker grew up making ice cream, learning the trade from his aunt and uncle in their ice cream parlor. In 1941, he decided it was high-time he go into business on his own. Alongside his wife, he set out for Santa Cruz, CA to seek his fortune. However, one day the pair stopped for lunch in Alameda, fell in love with the city, and decided to set up shop there. Flash forward to the ‘90s, and Tucker’s Ice Cream is still going strong. However, Marshall is looking to sell and – as luck would have it – Kate Pryor is looking to buy. Having grown up eating Tucker Ice Cream, she’s more than happy to take the reins. You’ll still find Kate selling these tasty treats throughout Alameda and the greater San Francisco area. The staying power of this establishment alone should tell you something about its quality. When ice cream is homemade, it’s always rich, creamy, saccharine perfection. With a foundation so strong, it almost doesn’t matter which flavor you choose. That being said, the flavors here are pretty impressive. You have everything from your classics like strawberry and vanilla to unique custom blends. With options like Blood Orange & Tarragon, English Toffee Crunch, and Irish Coffee, it’s hard to resist sampling the whole menu. So, don’t bother trying.
