Yes, Tom's Smokehouse is registered for catering and/or vending events on Roaming Hunger. In terms of availability, we don't manage their calendar. The best way to find out if they're available is to fill out your event information and see if they respond.

What is the story behind your business' name?

We want our customers/guests to feel like their at home surrounded by people they love through our food and services. The welcoming and warm hospitality is at the forefront of our establishment.

Where did you learn to cook?

I've been smoking and grilling meats for many years. I found inspiration during a trip down to Texas. My first bite of true Texas BBQ was a The Pit Room in Houston, TX. That first bite of BBQ changed my life forever. I became obsessed with techniques on how to create the same mouth-watering BBQ that originated from Texas. My obsession led to years of research, trials and errors before making the jump to starting my own establishment with the goal to bring that same BBQ experience to Wisconsin.

Why did you decide to start your business?

I wanted to be able to showcase what Texas BBQ is like here in Wisconsin and to indulge in the culture that is Texas BBQ. There's a lot of work from the beginning to the end to create a masterpiece of a product for customers. The journey is what brings me joy every single time I smoke every individual piece of meat. Watching that smoke for hours on end and seeing the meat transform from one form to another is magical. However, my biggest motivators and inspiration come from my two sons who are autistic. I wanted to build something from the ground up showing them that anything in this world is within their grasp if they work hard for it and that nothing can stop them from succeeding if they put their mind to it. I wanted to provide them with a safe space to take part of in the future if they so choose. This passion of Texas BBQ and my sons are what drives me every day to be better and do better.

Who encouraged you the most to start your own business?

My wife is my rock. She is my biggest supporter. I brought up this idea of starting a BBQ restaurant years ago and she was always by my side supporting me every step of the way. Without her, I will not be able to do what I do. We are partners in every aspect of that word whether it's in marriage, parents or even best friends.

What's your favorite event that you've catered for?

My favorite event I've catered for is an event I did as a fundraiser for MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College). I served the event free of charge to support the scholarship grants and funds provided by past alumni and sponsors that help students who struggle with everyday financials such as rent, books, commutes, etc. MATC asked us to donate BBQ for these supporters so we can continue, as a team, to support our students (future leaders) to continue their education with help from these donations. Although we cannot pay for everything for every student, every little bit of financial assistance helps to ease students' struggles bit by bit. I am proud to be able to take part in an event like this in support of our future leaders (students).
