The Hottest Food Trucks to Cool Down With This Summer

Summer is here and so is the unbearable heat that comes with it. With the temperatures rising to insane numbers, the last thing you want is a hot meal. To keep you cool during the summer months, be sure to find one of these trucks and enjoy a sweet treat (or more – we won’t judge) in the sun.

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream – Los Angeles, CA

Nothing says summer in Los Angeles better than a scoop of Sour Cream Berry Crumble artisan ice cream from the Van Leeuwen truck. Started in the streets of NYC, this buttery yellow truck has perfected the art of making really, really good ice cream. Using only the best ingredients to produce rich, decadent ice cream in flavors like honeycomb, ginger, and vegan matcha green tea, this isn’t your average neighborhood ice cream truck. Appearing on numerous best ice cream truck lists, a couple scoops of Van Leeuwen is always the solution when the temperature is hitting triple digits in Los Angeles.

Retro Sno – Nashville, TN

Borrowing the concept of a “snoball” from the New Orleans food scene, Retro Sno in Nashville is shaving up the Tennessean version of these light and fluffy icy treats. Using a method that involves shaving the ice very thin, unlike the coarse and crunchy texture of other icy delicacies, snoballs are like the better version of snow cones you never knew you needed. The menu is free of high fructose corn syrup and has options that include Blackberry Pomegranate, Sour Grape + Gummies, Raspberry Wedding Cake, and Sangria. Make it a “Stuffed” Snoball by adding ice cream to center and get ready to discover your new favorite dessert.

Hello! Ice Cream & Gelato – Ann Arbor, MI

There’s nothing worse than those humid Midwest summer afternoons, and they can only be made bearable if you have a cone from Hello! Ice Cream in hand. With a wide selection of mini cones, coated gelato pops, cookie sandwich trays, and an assortment of homemade gelato and ice cream, this truck prides itself on using milk and cream from local farms, fresh local fruit, and only the best Italian paste imported from Italy. The best part of Hello! Ice Cream (besides their scrumptious sweet treats) is Ingrid, the 1965 mint green Metro Van that was restored to all its dessert serving glory.

Kelvin Slush – New York City, NY

Sweltering heat and the streets of NYC go hand in hand during the summer months. Luckily, Kelvin Slush is around to help keep you cool with their award-winning premium organic slushies. Named one of the best drinks in New York by Time Out Magazine, these icy beverages are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan while still tasting out of this world delicious. Kelvin Slush boasts a menu of unique and sophisticated flavors, like the Ginger & White Peach Slush, or the refreshing Kelvin Palmer, a Tea & Citrus Slush. Next time you’re in New York and it’s 98 degrees, skip the blue and red icee from 7/11 and get yourself a naturally sugary dessert.

Sweet Tea Factory – Atlanta, GA

Escape the heat with a refreshing beverage from the Sweet Tea Factory, a thirst quenching truck brewing premium loose leaf teas as well as tea-infused popsicles, sorbets, and slushies. Pretend you’re feeling a cool island breeze with the Tropical Bliss Chill Sorbet (coconut oolong tea with fresh mango and pineapple) or a snack on a Southern Comfort Chill Popsicle (peach oolong tea frozen with fresh peaches). Wow Wow Lemonade – Maui, HI

Handcrafted lemonade served in reusable and refillable mason jars is what Wow Wow Lemonade does best. Whether it’s Da Green Lemonade with kale, Lychee Strawberry, or Makai Watermelon Basil, you’re bound to be blown away. The drinks at Wow Wow Lemonade are so mouthwatering delicious that they were even said to have been the inspiration behind Beyonce’s newest album, Lemonade. While that may not be entirely true, these drinks are so refreshing and flavorful (only local fruit and produce is used) that Queen Bey would definitely approve.

Boba Station – Miami, FL

When a regular drink just won’t cut it, pay a visit to Boba Station in Miami for some bubble tea, a drink with tapioca pearls at the bottom that’s quickly becoming the most fun way to hydrate. With flavors like honeydew, thai iced tea, mango, lychee, strawberry, and whatever other fruity combinations you can think of, the Boba Station and their bright green truck are exactly what you want to see after a long day at the beach.
